Classes are fun, informative and encouraging as well as being a warm and friendly group with a wide range of ages and abilities . The focus is to promote individuality and to encourage each student to achieve that which they may never have thought possible.

This class is the perfect place for any beginner from age 8 up to 14 years old to start training in martial arts. This group focuses on the basics of the Kenbu style and is specifically created for your child. This class teaches all that is necessary to achieve their first number of belts in martial arts and kick start their rewarding and unforgettable journey.

All of the classes are taught by Shidoshi Sinead Byrne, who is an 8 times Kenpo World Champion, who has taught and trained in martial arts for over 20 years. To read more about Sinead, click here.

Classes are fun, informative and encouraging as well as being a warm and friendly group with a wide range of ages and abilities . The focus is to promote individuality and to encourage each student to achieve that which they may never have thought possible.

The classes contain a seamless mixture of two martial arts; Kenpo Karate and Bujinkan. Kenpo is a relatively modern martial art which includes techniques, forms/kata, fitness and point sparring. All of these can lead to being a Kenpo Competitor and could lead to competing at local, British and European levels. Kenbu Dojo is a member of the IKKA Europe and train regularly with instructors from the BKKA here in the UK.

The other half of the Kenbu training system is called Bujinkan, more informally known as Ninjutsu, which includes self-defence training, including sticks, wooden training swords and even Shuriken (ninja throwing stars), right down to Taijustu (body movement). This is a more traditional martial arts system, going back thousands of years to ancient Japan. Steeped in history, but developed through time for modern day applications. Shidoshi Sinead travels with her Instructor Dai Shihan Marc Moor, to Japan regularly to train with the grandmaster Soke Hatsumi and many other top Japanese Dai Shihan and eagerly returns with that knowledge to pass on directly to her students.

Once purple belt has been achieved in this class group, the student will be automatically promoted to the Kenbu Shinobi group for intermediate level students, or depending on age, the student will move up to either the adult Kenpo group or adult Bujinkan group. There is an abundance of opportunity of progressions available to keep each student busy and hooked on training.

The goal of learning the two styles simultaneously is to gain a significant understanding of both, as one is a sporting art and the other is a self-defensive art, so when a student is ready to move on to an adult class they can make their own educated decision as to which style they prefer to continue with, or perhaps to continue training in both. Whatever they choose, they will be fully supported along the way.

For now, the next step is to simply come along and say hello; watch a class or even join in for a taster session, as reading all of the above won’t quite give you the full flavour of the friendly classes and welcoming students. Coming along is the best way to see if you would like it is to try it. Everyone feels a little nervous about trying something new, but we promise to make you feel welcome enough for you to thoroughly enjoy your first session with Kenbu Dojo. Be warned, you could get hooked for life!

To ask further questions or to book on for a free taster session, please contact us by clicking the link below and filling out the booking form. We cannot wait to meet you in the not too distant future.

See you soon!
